California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA)
CalOPPA is the first state law in the nation to require commercial websites and online services to post a privacy policy. The law’s reach stretches well beyond California to require any person or company in the United States (and conceivably the world) that operates websites collecting Personally Identifiable Information from California consumers to post a conspicuous privacy policy on its website stating exactly the information being collected and those individuals or companies with whom it is being shared. See more at: http://consumercal.org/california-online-privacy-protection-act-caloppa/#sthash.0FdRbT51.dpuf
According to CalOPPA, we agree to the following:
- Users can visit our site anonymously.
- This privacy policy is created, we link to it in the Footer. It is displayed at bottom of all our pages throughout our website.
- Our Privacy Policy link includes the word ‘Privacy’ and can easily be found on the site location specified above.
- You can change your personal information by editing your Profile or contacting us at memberservices@thehmuc.com.
How does our site handle Do Not Track signals?
HMU is built for security. We commit to user privacy by honoring the Do Not Track (“DNT”) browser settings. There’s no consensus on how best to do this.
Does our site allow third-party behavioral tracking?
HMU may also allow third-parties to provide visitor measurement and analytics services for us, to serve ads on our behalf across the Internet, and to track and report on the performance of those ads. These entities may use cookies, web beacons, SDKs, or other technologies to identify your device when you visit our site.
COPPA (Children Online Privacy Protection Act)
Only memberships for users that are 18 years or older will be accepted. HMU will not approve of any membership if you are younger than 18 years.
When it comes to the collection of personal information from children under the age of 13 years old, the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) puts parents in control. The Federal Trade Commission, United States’ consumer protection agency, enforces the COPPA Rule, which spells out what operators of websites and online services must do to protect children’s privacy and safety online.
We do not specifically market to children under the age of 13 years old. Our site caters to a general audience. We do not intend to market to or knowingly collect any information from anyone under 13 years of age. However, since we do ask our visitors for age-related information, we can only determine the age of a visitor to our site upon the given purchase of a membership. For any circumstances, where information is gathered from a child/children under the age of 13 years old, all of their data will be deleted from our records once notice is given.
